Cyclone Garance has made a significant impact on La Réunion, the French overseas territory located in the Indian Ocean. French Prime Minister François Bayrou urged residents to heed the advice of local authorities amidst ongoing concerns about heavy rain and the potential for further disruptions. While much of the immediate threat has diminished, the prime minister expressed solidarity with the victims and their families, emphasizing the community’s resilience in challenging circumstances.
Recovery efforts are underway, with weather conditions expected to improve as the storm subsides. The international airport in La Réunion, along with the nearby tourist destination of Mauritius, had been temporarily closed but plans to reopen are underway. While residents expressed fear and anxiety during the cyclone, they are now focusing on rebuilding and restoring normalcy in their lives.
