As foreign participants arrived ahead of the race, they were met with a vibrant atmosphere, characterized by cheering crowds and a celebration of athleticism. In 2019, the event drew approximately 950 foreign participants, a significant increase from around 450 in the preceding year. This year, it was anticipated that about 180 international runners would take part, reflecting an ongoing interest in connecting through athletic events.
The Pyongyang International Marathon is officially recognized by World Athletics, further solidifying its status as an integral component of North Korea’s growing engagement with the global sports community.
