Postecoglou: Even top players like Salah would find scoring difficult at Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has expressed concern over his team’s recent performance as they prepare for their upcoming League Cup semifinal against Liverpool. With Spurs currently sitting in 12th place in the Premier League, having lost three of their last four matches, Postecoglou’s remarks highlight the challenges facing the team.

In addressing the team’s struggles, Postecoglou mentioned Liverpool’s star winger Mohamed Salah, who has made headlines this season with an impressive tally of 21 goals and 17 assists in various competitions. Despite Salah’s exceptional form, Postecoglou suggested that the dynamic of Tottenham’s squad could hinder even a player of Salah’s caliber. He indicated that the current team is not in a position that would allow any individual player to thrive effectively.

Postecoglou stated, “Mo is a world-class player, but if you put him in our team now, I’m not sure he’ll have that same level of performance because of the situation we’re in as a group.” He emphasized that successful teams operate cohesively, with a solid defense and consistent offensive opportunities—elements that Spurs currently lack.

While acknowledging the difficulties faced by his squad, Postecoglou pointed out that Tottenham’s captain, Son Heung-min, has the potential to excel within a more competitive system, such as Liverpool’s. “I’d hazard to say that if you put Sonny in Liverpool’s team, I reckon his goalscoring return would be decent,” Postecoglou remarked, showcasing his confidence in Son’s abilities while also noting the need for the team to recapture its form.

In a recent move, Spurs exercised a one-year extension on Son’s contract, ensuring the continued presence of their influential captain. Since being named club captain in August 2023, Son has already made significant contributions to the squad. He previously shared the Premier League’s Golden Boot with Salah during the 2021-22 season, underlining his skill and influence on the pitch.

As Tottenham gears up for its critical matchup against Liverpool, the focus will be on overcoming current hurdles and fostering a collective spirit, essential for revitalizing the team’s fortunes this season.
