Heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk has been granted a month by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to finalize negotiations for a mandatory title defense against New Zealand’s Joseph Parker. Parker recently showcased his skills by successfully defending his WBO interim title in Riyadh last month, achieving a second-round stoppage against Martin Bakole—an unexpected opponent following Dubois’s withdrawal due to health issues.
Rather than rescheduling a match against Parker, Dubois had hoped for a high-stakes rematch with Usyk, aiming to compete for all four major heavyweight titles. Usyk, who made headlines by defeating Tyson Fury in May 2024, became the first undisputed heavyweight champion in nearly 25 years.
