US President Donald Trump recently unveiled an ambitious 0 billion joint venture aimed at significantly advancing the infrastructure necessary for artificial intelligence (AI). Following the announcement, SoftBank experienced a notable surge in its share prices, increasing by over 8 percent. This venture, named Stargate, is set to initially invest 0 billion, with plans to escalate funding to 0 billion over the next four years. Trump further clarified that the initiative is aimed at keeping AI development within the United States, positioning it as a strategic counter to international rivals, particularly China. SoftBank and OpenAI will lead the effort, with Son appointed as chairman.

This announcement follows Trump’s recent revocation of an executive order put in place by former President Joe Biden, which established strict safety guidelines for AI development. These prior regulations included mandates for companies to disclose the results of their safety tests to the government, which will no longer be required under the new directive.

Son referred to the Stargate project as the start of a “golden age” for technology in the United States. OpenAI confirmed that this initiative aims to integrate some of the nation’s most influential tech companies into its framework, with key partners including Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and others committed to supporting this ambitious project. The plans for the initial build-out are already underway in Texas, with additional sites being evaluated nationwide. OpenAI expressed confidence that Stargate will not only assist in the revitalization of American industry but also enhance national security capabilities for the United States and its allies.
