Syrian fighters who played a significant role in the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad have appointed Mohammed al-Bashir as the caretaker prime minister of the newly transitional government. Al-Bashir, who previously led the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)-affiliated Syrian Salvation Government (SSG) in the northwest province of Idlib, is set to guide the country through a pivotal transitional phase until March 1, 2025.
In a televised address, Al-Bashir stated that the initial cabinet meeting involved representatives from both the SSG and the ousted Assad regime to discuss the transfer of governmental functions and responsibilities. During his address, Al-Bashir showcased two flags: one representing the opposition, featuring green, black, and white colors, and another displaying the Islamic oath of faith.
