On the day of the accident, the vessel left Sikakap, a small town within the Mentawai Islands, en route to Tuapejat, another local municipality. Rudi, the head of the Mentawai search and rescue agency, emphasized the priority of the ongoing operations, stating that the team is committed to scouring the area in hopes of finding all individuals involved in the incident.
