Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its commitment to Sudan’s territorial unity and integrity while condemning the recent violent actions perpetrated by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North and South Kordofan, which have resulted in numerous fatalities, including women and children. In a firm statement released by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the country denounced what it termed “criminal attacks” and highlighted the impact of foreign interference in Sudan’s protracted conflict, which has now lasted nearly three years.
The statement specifically addressed the “continued influx of illegal weapons, mercenaries, and foreign fighters,” as factors exacerbating the violence in Sudan. While the statement did not name specific parties involved in these foreign interferences, its timing followed a tragic drone strike by the RSF that killed at least 24 individuals, including eight children, as they were being transported in a vehicle designated for displaced families. This attack was one of several recent assaults against humanitarian aid convoys and fuel transports in the Kordofan region.
The ongoing clash between the RSF and the Sudanese army has escalated significantly in recent months, especially after the fall of el-Fasher to the RSF last October.
