This narrative appears aimed at bolstering domestic support while navigating complex peace negotiations with the United States, as reports reveal substantial discrepancies between Russian claims and verified military realities on the ground.
In a year-end news conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that Moscow’s troops had successfully captured strategic locations, including Siversk in Donetsk and Vovchansk in Kharkiv. He further claimed Russian forces maintained control of significant portions of Lyman and Kostiantynivka in Donetsk, as well as Hulyaipole in Zaporizhia—a set of key front-line towns.
