Despite a ceasefire agreement, Israel continues to enforce severe restrictions on the entry of essential supplies, leaving families vulnerable and in dire need.

Cold temperatures and heavy rainfall have compounded the already dire situation for hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip, where Israel’s ongoing blockade has severely restricted the delivery of crucial shelter supplies. As the winter season sets in, humanitarian groups have expressed growing alarm over the inadequacies faced by families living in tent camps and makeshift shelters, many of whom lack the necessary provisions to endure the harsh coastal conditions.

The continuous bombardment of Gaza over the past two years has forcibly displaced many Palestinians multiple times, leaving more than 198,000 buildings damaged or destroyed, according to United Nations statistics. A displaced Palestinian mother of two, speaking from Gaza City, described the emotional toll of her family’s situation. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has stated that while it has adequate supplies to assist as many as 1.3 million Palestinians, the organization is unable to deliver these essentials due to the ongoing restrictions. As the Israeli military continues its operations, including recent airstrikes near Khan Younis and Gaza City, the urgent need for humanitarian assistance is more critical than ever. Without an end to the restrictions and enhanced efforts to provide shelter, the plight of these families is only likely to worsen in the days to come.
