Kenya has a rich history of hosting international athletics events, including the 2007 World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa, as well as the World Under-18 and Under-20 Championships in Nairobi in recent years. Notably, Nairobi also hosted the 2010 African Athletics Championships. Despite a setback in its bid for the 2025 championship, Nairobi’s team demonstrated resilience and strengthened their proposal, incorporating plans for a renovated Kasarani Stadium, which is currently undergoing improvements in anticipation of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
