Sitanshu Kotak, India’s batting coach, has vehemently defended his team against claims that their location for the Champions Trophy matches in Dubai may have conferred an unfair advantage. As the Indian squad prepares to face New Zealand in the final at Dubai International Stadium, Kotak emphasized that the arrangements were made prior to the tournament’s commencement and that asserting otherwise lacks foundation.
India has maintained an impressive undefeated record throughout the tournament, winning all four of their matches leading up to the final. The location of the matches shifted from Pakistan to Dubai due to prevailing political tensions, resulting in India competing in a familiar environment in the United Arab Emirates—a hub that promotes both tourism and sporting events.
Responding to criticisms regarding the tournament’s format, Kotak remarked, “The draw happened before the tournament began. If they believe there is an advantage after India has won its matches, I don’t know how to respond.” This statement underscores the unpredictability of sports and highlights the significance of performance over perceived advantages.
South African batsman David Miller pointed out the logistical challenges faced by his team, which dealt with the complexities of traveling from Lahore to Dubai in a very short time frame.
