A senior Hamas official has expressed serious concerns regarding the ongoing ceasefire negotiations with Israel, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of deliberately undermining the agreement following a postponement of the planned release of Palestinian prisoners. Basem Naim, a prominent member of Hamas’s political bureau, emphasized that further discussions on the ceasefire hinge on the immediate release of 620 Palestinian prisoners, which had been intended to take place over the weekend.
In a recent interview with ZezapTV, Naim clarified that Hamas will not proceed with additional ceasefire talks until Israel fulfills its commitment to release these prisoners. He articulated the sentiment that any continuation of negotiations requires a demonstration of goodwill through the completion of previously agreed terms. Naim stated, “Before we can consider the next step, it is essential that the release of the 620 prisoners occurs as planned.”
The Israeli government announced a postponement of this release, citing concerns over celebratory events held by Hamas that, according to Israel, belittled the situation of their own captives. The Israeli Prime Minister’s office defended this decision by asserting it aimed to uphold the dignity of their hostages and prevent the potential misuse of the situation for propaganda purposes.
