The attack occurred when a 30-year-old man on trial allegedly shot the judge, who succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital, as confirmed by Albanian police.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene after opening fire, but he was later apprehended by law enforcement authorities. The revolver used in the attack has since been recovered. In addition to the judge, the gunman also targeted a father and son involved in the trial, who were quickly transported to a medical facility. Fortunately, their injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening.

The alarming rise in gun-related incidents in Albania surfaced in recent statistics, which recorded 213 such events during the first half of this year, according to the South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons. Furthermore, under current Albanian law, possessing firearms illegally can lead to penalties of up to three years in prison.
