In a letter directed to the International Committee of the Red Cross, Iranian General Mohammad Bagherzadeh alleged that the three pilots—identified as Javad Salehi, Abdolmajid Dashtian, and Omran Behraveshian—were intercepted alive and detained for six months, accusing Qatar of denying them communication and access to humanitarian assistance.
Al-Ansari explained that the Iranian aircraft were intercepted because they had violated Qatar’s sovereignty and specifically Doha’s airspace, indicating that the action was taken in accordance with international law. He expressed incredulity at Iran’s claims, emphasizing that Qatar had extended an invitation for Iranian officials to send a technical team to participate in evaluating the search and rescue efforts, which had gone unanswered. In a significant development, Qatar’s Ministry of Defense reported that two Sukhoi Su-24 bombers were shot down—marking a historical first for a Gulf nation in intercepting Iranian aircraft amid rising tensions linked to the ongoing US-Israel war against Iran.
