A gunman who killed at least six people in Kyiv and took hostages has been shot dead by Ukrainian police. The attack occurred on Saturday in the capital’s Holosiivskyi district, where the assailant opened fire on civilians in the street before barricading himself inside a nearby supermarket, as reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko via Telegram.

Following the onset of the attack, special tactical police units were deployed to the scene after approximately 40 minutes of unsuccessful negotiations. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko shared that the gunman fired at police officers during the standoff. Authorities attempted to persuade him to surrender, especially given the likelihood of a wounded individual inside the supermarket. “We even offered to bring in tourniquets to stop the bleeding, but he did not respond,”
