In a thrilling match that showcased resilience and talent, Arsenal overcame Inter Milan with a 3-1 victory at the iconic San Siro, securing their place in the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League. Gabriel Jesus, fresh from injury, proved pivotal, scoring twice in a testament to his determination and skill. This remarkable win not only highlights Arsenal’s impressive form but also underscores their ambition to achieve greatness in European football.

Gabriel Jesus is quickly regaining his form, just a month after returning from a lengthy injury layoff. The Arsenal forward was given only his third start this season, and he scored twice in a dynamic first half to set his side on their way to a 3-1 victory at Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Jesus had been sidelined for nearly a year following an ACL tear last January. After the match, he expressed his elation, stating that it was a “dream night” for him, as he had always aspired to be a professional footballer. He recalled watching Serie A matches as a child and felt emotional playing in such a revered stadium and scoring there.

Despite his December return, Jesus mostly participated as a substitute in Arsenal’s earlier matches, with his limited appearances prior to Tuesday concentrated in domestic cup competitions. However, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta made the bold decision to start the Brazilian over Viktor Gyokeres, who has struggled since his transfer from Sporting Lisbon this summer.

“I understand that everyone desires to start,” Jesus said, displaying maturity about his journey. He was thrilled not only for scoring but also for Gyokeres, who came on later and contributed to the team’s success.

Jesus ignited the scoring early, netting Arsenal’s first goal in the 10th minute with a precise finish off a misdirected shot from Jurrien Timber. It marked Jesus’s first Champions League goal in over two years, following his previous strike against Lens in November 2023.

The equalizer came shortly after from Inter Milan’s Petar Sucic, but Jesus once again found the net in the 31st minute, heading in a well-placed corner from Bukayo Saka, which had been nodded back by Leandro Trossard.

Gyokeres then came on for Jesus in the 75th minute, scoring nine minutes later to seal the game for Arsenal. This win guarantees Arsenal a position in the knockout stage of the Champions League and marks the first time in the club’s history that it has won seven consecutive European matches.

While Arsenal has yet to clinch a Champions League title, they did reach the final in 2006, where they lost to Barcelona. Currently, Arteta’s side also leads the Premier League with a remarkable seven-point advantage, preparing to face Manchester United on Sunday.

In showcasing skill and resolve, Arsenal continues to embody the spirit of a club on the rise, with aspirations set high in both domestic and European competitions.
