Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City and once a prominent figure in U.S. politics, has been hospitalized following a car accident near Manchester, New Hampshire. According to a spokesman for Giuliani, Michael Ragusa, the incident occurred late on Saturday evening and subsequently resulted in a fractured vertebra along with other injuries.
Ragusa detailed that Giuliani’s rental vehicle was struck from behind at high speed, clarifying that authorities do not believe this collision is linked to any malicious intent. The 81-year-old Giuliani received immediate attention at a local trauma center, where he was treated for a fractured thoracic vertebra, various lacerations and contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
Prior to this unfortunate event, Giuliani had been involved in assisting a woman identified as a victim of domestic violence. After contacting the police to intervene on her behalf, he resumed his journey, shortly before the crash occurred. Ragusa emphasized the incident was “entirely unrelated” to the earlier domestic violence matter.
Despite the severity of the accident, Ragusa reported that Giuliani is in good spirits and is expected to be discharged from the hospital within a few days. This incident comes at a time when the former Republican presidential candidate has faced various challenges over the past few years. Giuliani, widely remembered for his leadership during the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, has had a tumultuous political career that included serving as personal attorney to former President Donald Trump.
